Mercedes-Benz’s flagship, the 2014 S-Class has been launched in Chennai. This new S-Class is 30% bigger than the out-going model. With a host of safety features and technological innovation, the new S-Class like it’s predecessors, will set a benchmark in the luxury sedan market. The S500 Long wheel-base is the only model currently available in the Indian market and it is priced at Rd. 1.6 crores. No plans have been made as to when the other models in the range, including the AMG versions, would be available.

Mercedes has dubbed the year 2014 as the “Year or excellence” and it’s starts off with the launch of the new S-Class. 125 cars were allocated to the Indian market and they were sold out in 16 days. Bookings have now been opened for an April 2014 delivery.

The New S-Class is the world’s first car to feature an all LED light system with over 500 individual LEDs providing illumination throughout the car. This saves upto 700% energy as compared to the usage of regular bulbs. The seats are provided with a hot stone massage function, a first in automobiles. The car also features a Burmester® 3D surround sound system with 24 high-performance speakers and a system output of 1540 watts. The rear of the car easily converts into a “mobile office” with features like folding tables, individual entertainment systems, 12V power sockets, USB-Aux-in points and “wireless hot spot” as standard. The car’s many features like the massage function, seat heating and multimedia can be operated from an Android smartphone. It also has a choice of 7 colours for interior lighting and 5 dimming levels, also a first in automobiles.

Mercedes-Benz also plans to provide “Chauffeur training” to the chauffeurs of the new -Class to introduce them to the various features on the car and train them to give a complete luxury experience to the customers. Mercedes have started the year with a new version of their flagship, and The S-Class seems to be a very promising start to their Year Of Excellence concept.
