Honda has announced, as a part of their growing Earth Dreams Technology, they will be introducing three all-new VTEC TURBO Engines. These engines will come in three capacities; 1 litre, 1.5 litre and 2 litre. Honda has said they will have great performance, as well as a class-leading output and fuel economy.
All three engines are direct-injection turbo petrol engine, and will feature Honda’s variable valve motion technology like the refined VTEC (Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control) technology. These new turbo engines will join the Honda’s 1.6 litre diesel engine and hybrid technology and will power a number of future global models depending on the requirements of various markets and vehicle characteristics.
These engines are based on a completely new engine structure, and the new turbo systems have helped Honda downsize it’s engines and produced a highly efficient direct injection, 3 cylinder 1 litre turbo engine and a direction injection, 1.5 litre 4 cylinder turbo engine. These engines have low friction throughout and that helps in achieving class-leading output and environmental performance.
Europe will first receive the top of the range 2 litre VTEC Turbo, with direct injection and 4 cylinders, which will find it’s way into the Civic Type R. The engine is a 280 ps, EURO 6 compliant unitm with high efficiency and responsiveness.
It must also be noted that Honda will enter the Formula 1 World Championship in 2015, as an engine supplier to the McLaren Formula 1 team. The new regulations of F1 dictates the use of 1.6 litre V6 Turbo engines.
