In an interview to the The Mail on Sunday, Ecclestone says Hamilton approached him in mid 2012 asking him to help engineer a move to Red Bull taking Webber’s place. Bernie says the efforts failed as Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz wanted Webber to stay on.
Autosport reports that Lewis Hamilton has denied that he made any such specific requests. “I think he said something about me talking to Red Bull? I said to my management team to speak to all the teams and give me what the best options were. There was no particular one that I was pushing for more.”
“He seems to only make comments about me for some reason,” said Hamilton. “It makes me a bit nervous because we have quite a good relationship and I’m quite open with him about a lot of stuff. I don’t really know what to say about the comments he made.”
He also added the at the end of the day he was with Mercedes and that it was the best decision he ever made.
