Jaguar has released more details and some jaw dropping design sketches ahead of the IAA. Talk on various automotive websites and forums say the C-X16 could be an ‘affordable’ Jag 2 seater coupe meant to fight the likes of the Porsche Cayman.Jaguar says the C-X16 is a bold statement of Jaguar’s future design and technological intent.
The two-seater concept has inspired new advances in design, in engineering and in vehicle technology to create the most compact and responsive Jaguar in a generation. The C-X16 is a compact, rear-wheel drive, two-seater, hybrid, with a true sporting character, underpinned by immensely strong aluminium architecture characterized by a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. The C-X16 is powered by an innovative supercharged 3.0-litre V6 producing 380 PS (280 kW) and 332 lb ft (450 Nm) of torque.
The Hybrid system is controlled by a steering-wheel mounted ‘Push to Pass’ button boosts output by 70 kW and 235 Nm. Top speed is around 186 mph, and 0-62 mph is dispensed with in 4.4 seconds and the CO2 emissions are close to 165 g/km.
Having always been partial to Jaguars, this correspondent is wondering whether to start gushing about how awesome the car looks. It isn’t like I have a choice. The C-X16 is a stunning looker with the right proportions, the subtle glamour and Ian Callum’s touch, all of which should have been enough, but after the C-X75 it isn’t too much ask for every other Jag concept to look like its from the distant future, is it?
Oh that beautiful steering wheel with the jaguar silhouette bang in the middle. The bright red ‘Push to Pass’ button might divide opinion amongst Jaguar enthusiasts, but we love it.
More details of the C-X16 will be presented at the Jaguar Land Rover press conference in Hall Five at the Frankfurt Motor Show on Tuesday September 13 at 09:15 CET.
