Title favourite for this year’s World Superbike Championship Carlos Checa took one more step towards the title with a win in the first race at the Nurburgring. He was able to keep his Althea Ducati ahead of the Yamaha of Marco Melandri and the Pata Aprilia of Noriyuki Haga. Max Biaggi could not participate in the race due to an injury sustained in practice.
The World Supersport race was won by Chaz Davies on the ParkinGo Yamaha while James Ellison took second place on a Bogdanka PTR Honda while third place was claimed by Parkalgar Honda rider Sam Lowes. Interestingly enough all three riders are Brits.
