Everybody comfortably believed that the Maruti 800 was dying and that the Alto would be the new 800 and since the sales of the Alto have been nothing like anything before this particular perception was constantly reinforced. However Maruti seems to believe that the Tata Nano can be a threat and therefore is keeping the 800 alive. Autocar India has scooped the picture of a test mule of what it is calling the new 800. The car seems to a reworked version of the existing A Star that is not so hot selling. The roof line and the rear of the car point to that. Suzuki sells a similar model in Japan.
