There has been yet again an increase in the price of petrol by a little more than Rs. 5/- per litre. This is on the base price and in different parts of the country depending upon the structure of taxation, the increase could be even more. This means that the burden on the common man will increase even more. Most low income and lower middle income people ride two wheelers which run on petrol while the rich and the super rich drive around in cars that run on diesel and enjoy the subsidy that is actually meant for farmers. The government needs to think this one clearly out and bring out a legislation that will increase diesel prices and bring them on par with international prices, for those who use diesel for non farming and non public transport such as buses and lorries. It is not something that cannot be done. All it needs is proper thinking.
