“It’s a challenging venue and I really enjoy the track, it’s a nice circuit to drive. There was a massive crowd there last year and it was a good atmosphere. The track is similar to Korea with mainly long straights in sector 1 followed by a very busy sector 2 and 3, so we need to get the balance right between downforce and top speed. It should be reasonably straightforward weather-wise and I’m looking forward to getting out there.” said Mark Webber just ahead of the 2012 Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix to be held at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida.

Last year’s winner Sebastian Vettel had a lot to say. “I loved the track layout last year, but not just because I won the race. With an average speed of 235kph, the course is the second quickest of the year after Monza. There is a lot of elevation change around the lap which adds to the fun, from as much as 8% downhill and up to 10% uphill; it’s like a roller coaster! It really has emerged as one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar for the drivers.”

Buddh International Circuit

Everybody loves the BIC. The Hermann Tilke designed track has drivers gushing about how fantastic it is to drive at this circuit. The race distance is about 307.249km covered in 60 laps with each lap being 5.125km long. The weather is expected to be sunny. As pointed out by the drivers Turn 10/11 is special and it is through this banked right-hander the drivers pull up to 4g for four seconds. The track has also been lauded for its elevation changes with the track rising 14 metres between Turns 1 and 3.

Winner of last years inaugural race, Sebastian Vettel holds all records for this track. He holds the pole record at 1m24.178s and the lap record of 1m27.249s driving the Red Bull RB7.

rSeries : 8 updates to 2012 Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix : Driver quotes, track specs and what to expect this year

Lewis Hamilton 2012 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix 06Lewis Hamilton on the Indian GP : “I love India – the people, the colour, the noise, the spectacle, the chaos: it’s an intense and vibrant country, with some of the most enthusiastic and friendliest people we meet all year.

“The circuit, too, is something of a revelation. Most modern tracks have a very similar feel; you find that the same driving style and rhythm suits them all. But the Buddh International Circuit is different: it has more in common with a great track like Spa than it does with any number of the more modern places we visit.

“And that’s because it’s got an incredible flow – basically, from Turn Four, a wide-apex right-hander that sweeps downhill, the track is just a series of fast, rolling curves which really allow you to put the car absolutely on the limit.

“I didn’t have a particularly tidy weekend there last year: but I feel I’ve been driving better than ever recently – even if the results haven’t quite shown it – so I’m headed to India determined for another good result. I think we’ll have a car that’s a match for the circuit and I can’t wait to get out there and start practicing on Friday.”

Jenson Button Korena Grand Prix 01

Jenson Button said ““Through no fault of my own, my weekend in Korea was a wasted opportunity – but it’s already far behind me, and I’m really looking forward to these next two back-to-back races.

“The Indian Grand Prix went well for me last year – I had an absolutely straightforward drive, running second from start to finish. It’s a circuit I like: it has a good feel to it, and you can tell it’s quite different from the normal places we visit.

“There are a couple of unusual factors: firstly, the approaches to Turns Three and Four are incredibly wide – almost like a motorway – in order to stimulate different lines into the corner and encourage overtaking. I hear that’s an element that’ll be carried over to the new track at Austin, too.

“Secondly, the combination of Turns 10 and 11 is also pretty special – it’s a huge, bowl-shaped double-apex right-hander, a bit like Spoon at Suzuka. It’s unusual for a new circuit to have such fast corners, and it’s really enjoyable when you get the car hooked up through there – the lateral g feels great.

“I think we can have a good weekend there – I’m already looking forward to it.””

Martin Whitmarsh, Team principal, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes

“Our two weekends in Japan and Korea weren’t particularly prosperous. But while fortune certainly didn’t smile on Vodafone McLaren Mercedes during those two races, it’s proof if it were needed that no team or driver is immune from tides of good or bad luck.

“Of course, luck flows both way, and I’m positive that, after two disappointing races, this next double-header will be a more profitable affair for Jenson, Lewis and the whole team.

“I think the Indian Grand Prix has the potential to become a classic event on the Formula 1 calendar – the circuit is well regarded by all the drivers, there is a natural fanbase eager and ready for Formula 1 and there is terrific market potential within the entire continent. I am a big believer in the value of the Indian Grand Prix.”

Jenson Button Korena Grand Prix 01

Jenson Button runs us through the basics of the BIC. He says the right hander from 10 to 11 is the toughest, being a tyre killer. The drivers are also subjected to nearly 4 seconds of 4g force at 200 kph. Of course, there’s the obligatory plug for Hilton!

Ben Spies : 2012 MotoGP - Grand Prix of Portugal, Estoril

Following the crash in Malaysia, Ben Spies has successfully undergone surgery on the 23rd of October for the torn ligament in his right shoulder.

Straight the press release “The procedure consisted of the reconstruction of the Coracoclavicular Ligaments torn in the crash and a reduction of a separated Acrimioclavicular joint, aided by a Twin Tightrope device, which is a suture based system”. The doctors removed a titanium plate that was put in 10-12 years ago, and used the ‘buttonhole’ method using the same screw holes, said to cycleworld.com by Spies’ mother. The doctors also realized that the clavicle was very loose, and hence cadavar tissue was placed to replace and reinforce the Coracoclavicular Ligaments that were torn.

The surgery was successful, Spies will make a full recovery although he will need to remain in a sling for up to 10-12 weeks. Yamaha Factory will field only one rider in Australia and will announce the replacement rider for the final round in Valencia after the Phillip Island race.

Ben Spies ends his stint with Yamaha Factory Racing and will move to Pramac Ducati Racing next season. The long recovery period will unfortunately make Spies miss out on pre season testing.

The K Series has always been BMW’s darling child (until the arrival of the S 1000 RR?) and has been flagship carrying the latest tech wizardry from the boffins at BMW Motorrad. The K Series was born as the first K100 launched in 1983. It was one of the first BMW four cylinders and was offered with the BMW Compact Drive System with longitudinally mounted crankshaft and a horizontal cylinder bank. It was nicknamed the ‘Flying Brick’ because of the look of the engine, with the right housing the crankshaft and the left the cylinder heads, camshafts, injectors, spark plugs and the 4 into 1 exhausts pipes. This first generation of the K models also ushered in technological innovations such as the first electronic fuel injection system. 5 years later it was the introduction of of 4-valve technology and the very first ABS system in a serial motorcycle – the K 100 RS in 1988. BMW also introduced electronic cruise control on the K 1200 LT. In 2004, BMW Motorrad established the third generation of the series with the K 1200 S, now with a more conventional transverse crankshaft, and featuring the two suspension innovations Duolever and ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment). The BMW K-series was also supplemented with the two in-line 6-cylinder models K 1600 GT/GTL in 2010.

New Ford Fiesta Sedan face lift unveiled at São Paulo Auto Show

The Fiesta wears Ford’s new design language we saw first on the Ford Evos. The most distinct element would be the new large front trapezoidal grille, the signature of the brand’s new global family. The head lamps have also been redesigned as has the hood. The hood is sculpted with two lateral lines.

Enthusiasts have been screaming that the grille is a Aston Martin rip off. While the similarities are there, we doubt if we can term it a ‘rip off’. Give us a moment to explain. The Ford Evos Concept laid down the basic rules for the Ford new family look. I cannot remember anybody screaming ‘Aston Martin’ when the Evos Concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The contour of the grille on the new Fiesta is a slightly less aggressive interpretation of that on the Evos. Ford swaps the honeycomb grille on the Evos for a set of horizontal chromed slats and suddenly we see the Aston Martin resemblance? Do drop in your comment at the end with your opinion.
