McLaren P1 Interior 01

McLaren says the P1’s ‘cockpit’ is inspired by fighter jets, right upto the clear glass canopy overhead. While the P1 retains features like satellite navigation, climate control and a sound system, the switchgear is kept to a minimum. While we have known for sometime that the P1 has a carbon fibre MonoCage and body panels, McLaren says carbon fibre has also been used for the dashboard, floor, headlining, doors, rockers and a single piece for the central control unit. McLaren has gone the extra mile and shaved off the top layer of the resin that covers the carbon fibre, saving nearly 1.5 kgs!

McLaren’s quest for a lightweight P1 continues with other components in the interior.

The bucket seats use minimal foam. The carbon fibre shells of the seats are ultra-thin and mounted on lightweight brackets and runners, contributing to an overall weight of just 10.5 kg each. The bucket seats are non adjustable, but the seat backs can be changed from the 28 degrees angle to 32 degrees to accommodate driver’s helmets during track days. The height of the seat will be set based on the driver and passenger, and can be also adjusted in the workshop.

The 800 bhp engine will be supplemented by an additional 200 bhp from the KERS system. The McLaren P1 will debut at the 83rd Geneva Motor Show. Check back for updates as we receive more information.

Ferrari F150 Teaser Geneva Debut

Ferrari’s official instagram account posted a teaser of the Enzo successor with a strong message stating that ‘The Most Powerful HyperFerrari’ is on its way to Geneva. The F150 is expected to make close to 800 horsepower, with an additional 100 bhp from the HY-KERS system.

UPDATE: While the teaser image is from the official Ferrari magazine, the news is not. Ferrari has denied having any ‘official’ instagram page. The Geneva debut is something we can still expect though.

2013 seems to be a good year for Hypercars what with the McLaren P1 also expected to make a debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The F150 Enzo successor is also reported to have driver seats tailor made for each customer and the carbon fibre composite chassis will be laid by hand at Ferrari’s F1 composites department. The F150 will have the fuel tank and battery just behind the driver’s cockpit like in a F1 car.

Honda Brio Diesel 01

The Honda Brio has been spotted testing with diesel engines under the hood if the folks at Auto Adrenaline are to be believed. The clatter of the diesel engine as well as the turbocharger whine led them to believe this was a diesel powered Brio. The Brios caught under test also had a sticker on the dash that said D-12.

The Honda Amaze ( a Brio based sedan) with its 1.5 litre diesel was expected to launch first, we wonder if these spy shots might lead one to assume differently.

Caterham CT03 unveiled at Jerez 01

As the sheets slipped off the CT03s in the pitlane at Jerez, it was obvious that the livery has been slightly refreshed for 2013. The CT03 has a lighter, refreshed green and yellow color scheme, which the new Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul says will help improve visibility of the Caterham cars on track.

Caterham seems to have skipped the designation CT02 since that is the code name for the Caterham/Renault project. The CT03 is the first car to be produced from the team’s new home at Leafield. Mark Smith, Technical Director who thinks this is an important milestone for the team says the CT03 is an evolution of the CT01 as the team wants to start working on the 2014 car as early in the season as possible. “We have made a number of significant changes to the car that takes it from the package that gained us 10th place in the championship in Brazil in 2012 into CT03. Among the most obvious are around the lower chassis where the sidepods have been significantly undercut to improve airflow to the rear of the car. The diffuser, engine cover and cooling exits have also seen major changes and there are more subtle improvements to other areas of the car, such as the sidepod turning vanes and the lower tea-tray area. This is the package we will take to race one in Australia and as part of the 2013 upgrade program we will then bring new front and rear wings and a new diffuser soon after the start of the season.” he added.

Charles Pic, who was with Marussia last year, and Giedo van der Garde make up the driver line up for Caterham F1 Team. “Driving the cars this year are Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde, two drivers who give us a good mix of youth and experience inside and outside Formula One. ” said Cyril Abiteboul.

Tony Fernandes, under whose able guidance as Team Principal the team secured the 10th place in the championship in Brazil in 2012 now moves into a less demanding role as the co-chairman of the Caterham Group.

The CT03 retains the stepped nose of the CT01, not opting for the vanity panel.
