While the exclusive media day and the next had our focus on the newly launched Polaris RANGER RZR 170 and Sportsman 90, the 9th of January had a pleasant surprise for us in store. Polaris had on display the enormous Victory Vision Tour and the stunningly classic Vegas Jackpot ( in solid black ) on display at the Polaris stall.
Polaris would not comment on any specifics, but an imminent entry into the Indian market is definitely on the cards.
Both these motorcycles are powered by the 106 cubic-inch Freedom V-Twin Engine delivering 97 horsepower. While the engine in the Vision Tour turns the world with its 109 ft lbs of torque, the engine in the Vegas Jackpot delivers 113 ft lbs of torque.
The Off Road vehicle brand Polaris has been launching its products in different cities in the country, in stages, letting residents of the city soak in the experience that is Polaris. Every launch has involved elaborate custom built tracks that work the Polaris vehicles hard and let the occupant experience the abilities of these go anywhere automobiles.
When speaking to Polaris about the plans for the 11th Auto Expo, we got a cryptic ‘We are doing a lot!’. A lot, they did do.
Apart from the new launches and the surprise appearance of the Victory range of motorcyles at the Polaris stall, Polaris was giving enthusiasts a chance to experience Polaris Off road vehicles at the 11th Auto Expo 2012.
From the long lines and the grin stuck on the participants faces, we are betting Polaris is in their good books already.
Were you in one of those lines? Drop us a comment if you were!
PACCAR had on display the DAF CF premium truck at the 11th Auto Expo. PACCAR manufactures the popular Peterbilt and Kenworth brand of trucks in North America and is only next to the Daimler’s Freightliner brand of trucks in terms of market share. DAF Trucks NV is the Dutch unit of the PACCAR company. DAF is the leading on-highway tractor manufacturer in Europe.
The CF on display has a PACCAR PX-6 180-horsepower engine and an Asia MotorWorks (AMW) tipper body. The versatile CF is designed for tractor and vocational configurations. We understand that the ‘Tractor’ configuration is essentially the trucks that carry containers, better known as trailer trucks to us enthusiasts in India and ‘Vocational’ configuration would be trucks built for specific applications, such as a dump truck or a cement mixer.
DAF trucks are sold and serviced by a network of over 1,000 independent dealer locations worldwide. “DAF vehicles are successful due to their excellent reliability, efficiency and high standard of driver comfort,” commented Don Schulte, managing director PACCAR in India. “The AutoExpo 2012 offers PACCAR the opportunity to meet with potential customers, dealers and suppliers.”
DAF has already established the PACCAR Technical Center in Pune, India with its partner KPIT, a leading technology solutions company. The center currently has 25 employees and will have approximately 200 employees by December. The PACCAR Technical Centre will focus on engineering, information technology, and component sourcing for worldwide production and aftermarket operations. DAF hopes to accelerate new product development with the establishment of the technical centre.

Honda Dio for 2012
Ah, the most loved scooter in the country, probably. Motorcycle riders have for long made the mistake of disrespecting this little scooter and have had to ward off the fierce loyalists of the Dio.
Dio’s new frontal design expresses dynamic and youthful moto-scooter look through its sleek and aerodynamic wedge design says Honda. Other changes to the design are the sporty shaped integrated rear with a new tail lamp and 3D badges.
Matt Axis Grey Metallic is a fantastic color!
The New Dio has a 110cc engine that replaces the 102cc engine. This engine is has roller rocker arms, reduced valve spring load, reduced cooling fan diameter size and better stability of weight roller & load of pulley spring leading to reduce friction and thereby 15% more mileage than the previous Dio.
Honda Dio is the first automatic scooter in the Indian market to come with tubeless tyres. Honda’s new Combi-brake is a welcome addition. Wonder what it will do to stunters in the country who prefer the Dio over motorcycles. The leg space has also increased.
The new Dio will be available for sale from January 2012 end in five exotic colours – Sports Red, Matt Axis Grey Metallic, Pearl Sunbeam White, Candy Palm Green and Leblon Violet Metallic .

Renault DeZir
Under the leadership of Laurens van den Acker, Renault’s Design Department took inspiration from the brand’s new signature ‘Drive the Change!’ and explores Renault’s styling roots to express the company’s powerful human dimension via a new strategy founded on the notion of the ‘life cycle’. This vision also builds on the bonds that are gradually forged between the brand and its customers at watershed moments of their lives, such as when they fall in love, start to explore the world, found a family, begin to work, take time to play and attain wisdom.
The DeZir was the first implementation of this strategy based on the human life cycle. The first step involves falling in love, an experience that is perfectly illustrated by DeZir’s powerful, sensuous styling and bright red finish; red being the colour associated with passion. The ‘Z’ in the name DeZir is a direct reference to Renault’s Z.E. signature, and several features of its design are suggestive of two qualities readily associated with electric mobility, namely advanced technology and light weight.
If you were wondering what is up with the pulsing red light in the seat, well, as Renault put it , the white benchseat seems to float on a red-hued bed of light which, symbolises passion. This lighting gently pulses to a rhythm that suggests a beating heart.
Deep huh? We love it!

Chevrolet had on display the en-v, short for Electric Networked-Vehicle, a personal mobility vehicle that can seat two. GM says it was designed to alleviate concerns surrounding traffic congestion, parking availability, air quality and affordability for tomorrow’s cities. The EN-V models were first unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2010. In line with the theme for this year’s Auto Expo, ‘Mobility for All’, which is essentially sustainable motoring, GM must have decided to have the year old concept on display.
The EN-V’s platform has evolved from the platform of the Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility (P.U.M.A.) prototype that was developed by Segway and debuted in April 2009. Segway has worked collaboratively with GM to develop and deliver multiple copies of the drivetrain platform that seamlessly connect to and power the various EN-Vs.
EN-V is propelled by electric motors in each of its two driving-mode wheels. Dynamic stabilization technology gives it the unique ability to carry two passengers and light cargo in a footprint that’s about a third of a traditional vehicle. If we understood the press briefing correctly, the EN-V can turn in a zero circle radius.Everything in EN-V is drive-by-wire, supporting its ability to operate autonomously or under manual control. The motors not only provide power for acceleration, but also bring the vehicle to a stop.
The EN-V uses Global Positioning System (GPS) with vehicle-to-vehicle communications and distance-sensing technologies to operate autonomously.
The body of the EN-V is constructed from carbon fiber, custom-tinted Lexan and acrylic, materials that are more commonly used in race cars, military airplanes and spacecraft because of their strength and lightweight characteristics.
