Jonathan Rea and a rejuvenated Castrol Honda have been at the front of the World Superbike grid in the last couple of races. Rea has claimed pole position at Magny Cours for the Sunday race. Second place on the grid has gone to Eugene Laverty on the Yamaha, while third place has been taken by Carlos Checa on the Althea Ducati. Checa needs just three points to clinch this years World Superbikes title.

General Motors India has seen a rise of 17.35% in sales in September, 2011 compared to those in the same period last year. The growth has been driven by the newly introduced diesel variant of the Chevrolet Beat. The Beat sales seem to be cannibalizing those of the Spark whose numbers are down significantly.
Tata Motors has been able to sell more Indicas this September with whole range selling over 10,000 vehicles which is a 64% increase while the Nano has been able to sell only 2, 936 units, a decline of 47%. The Nano saga is still to find the resolution that Ratan Tata and Tata Motors want.
Ford India has reported that there has been an increase of 9.45% in its sales in September, 2011 over those of September, 2010. This modest increase has been the result of a push in exports even though domestic sales have actually declined by 6.9% during the same period.
TVS Motor Company has seen sales increase by 17% is September, 2011 when compared to sales in the same month last year. TVS sold 2,19,369 units of its two wheelers as opposed to 1,88,005 units in September of 2010.
After a great deal of thinking the Govt of India has decided to provide the Indian army with the older generation Mitsubishi Pajero that is manufactured in India by Hindustan Motors. The go anywhere capabilities of the vehicle are the obvious reason behind this move by the Indian army.
Honda has started the process of building its third two wheeler manufacturing plant in India. This plant is coming up at Narsapura near Bengalooru in the south Indian state of Karnataka. Honda has ear marked Rs. 1000 crore for this plant alone. The idea behind a third plant and that too in the south is to bring down the waiting list of products and also to improve logistics of distribution.

The export sales grew 10.3% and stood at 10,825 units in September 2011 while 9,811 units were exported in September 2010. Casey Stoner of the Repsol Honda team has taken pole position in qualifying for tomorrow’s MotoGP race at Motegi in Japan. Second place in qualifying went to Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha and third on the grid to Andrea Dovizioso who surprisingly qualified ahead of Dani Pedrosa who could only take fourth. Yamaha’s Ben Spies who is not a 100% fit finished by taking fifth on the grid while San Carlo Gresini Honda’s Marco Simoncelli will start sixth and Valentino Rossi will start his race tomorrow from seventh on the grid. Alvaro Bautista on the Rizla Suzuki did rather well to round out the top eight in qualifying.
Mercedes GP has hired the services of Aldo Costa who lost his job at Ferrari this year in July following Ferrari’s poor form this season has been hired by Ross Brawn to bolster the team for 2012. Costa and Brawn worked together at Ferrari during the Michael Schumacher years. Also joining the Mercedes squad will be aerodynamics engineer Geoff Willis who recently quit Team HRT. After two poor years in F1 Mercedes wants to turn its fortunes around next year and be in a position to fight for wins.
