There are rumours in the international press that Opel the German car making unit which is the property of General Motors maybe up for sale.  In the past, when GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it had originally intended to sell Opel and Vauxhall along with all the other brands such as Saab.  Later it decided to hold on to the two because they, especially Opel is seen as a technology provider for the rest of GM.  The latest rumours have been saying that Opel could be bought over by a Chinese company or by Volkswagen.  However Opel and GM authorities have rubbished the rumours and have said that Opel is not for sale.
